Situation and Challenge

Multi-billion dollar manufacturing company had a senior executive who needed to scale her role quickly to handle massive organizational growth. Not only did this high performing leader need to adopt new skills to lead at even higher levels – she was working at a pace that was burning her out. She needed tools to manage stress and anger – and keep balance and perspective. To operate effectively, the leader could also not afford to scare off people whose information she needed, and relationships that would help the organization thrive.

Services Provided

Out of the gate we addressed some stress and energy management, as well as examined work habit obstacles, in order to regain some balance, control and emotion management. It was critical to be less triggered. In our assessment phase, I created a customized 360 process based on the company’s leadership profile, coupled with phone interviews. We also used self-assessment tools on communication, work style and EQ. We shortlisted some actions from our plan and worked on these in a minimum of 2 sessions a month, for a period of 9 months. I ran a post-coaching assessment with all of the evaluators from the pre-coaching one.

Results

The survey indicated a highly observable change in the leader by reports, peers and senior leaders. She was more calm and had less of a short fuse. This leader was able to employ some new self-management habits that enabled greater control and a better reaction to the inevitable daily stressors. The company and leader signed up for a second phase of coaching to address new challenges, and together we work during a big acquisition, and two promotion points. Soon after they hired me to work with another key senior leader in the organization.
